SUMMARY:Radiancy Divine - Light and Heat in Church
DESCRIPTION:Having been prevented in 2020 and 2021 from holding a “live” conference\, we are pleased to be able to return to our usual format and venue.  The programme should be not only of general and antiquarian interest but include information helpful to churchwardens and others with practical responsibility for churches. \nThe Lee Hall at Wolfson College is a fully equipped purpose-built lecture hall.  Lunch is served in the comfortable and attractive setting of the Combination Room.  The College is located just within the south-western city limits of Cambridge\, on the left of Barton Road A603\, approaching Cambridge from M11 Junction 12.  A map and directions can be found on the Wolfson website. Cambridge railway station is some distance away and delegates arriving by rail are advised to hire taxis.  There is parking in some nearby streets.  If you have limited mobility\, please indicate\, as we have a very small supply of permits to park within the College.  Otherwise\, passengers can be dropped off at the rear entrance in Selwyn Gardens\, close to Lee Hall\, and the driver can look for parking on street. \nWe and the College will of course be taking all due precautions to avoid any risk of spreading Covid-19 infection.  Although it will no longer be mandatory\, we would ask everyone concerned to wear face-covering except when addressing the audience or consuming refreshments. \nSpeakers\nSir Hugh Duberly is Chair of the Trust and was formerly Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire. \nDr Jasmine Allen is Curator of the Stained Glass Museum\, a national collection of stained glass and centre of knowledge and expertise\, located in Ely Cathedral.\n“A man who looks on glass…“windows from Saxon times to the twenty-first century \nDr Kirstin Kennedy is Curator of Metalwork 1450-1900 at the Victoria and Albert Museum.\n“Candlelight and its accessories” \nBruce Kirk is Director of Light Perceptions Ltd\, who design and create lighting schemes for historic buildings including major churches and cathedrals.\n“From gas and gasoliers to incandescent lamps\, and sodium floodlighting to LED light sources” \nThe Revd Canon David Pritchard is Vice-Chair of the Trust and Chair of its Executive Committee and was formerly Precentor\, Vice-Dean and later Acting Dean of Ely. \nSarah Khan is a conservation architect with Roger Mears Architects and is included in several diocesan lists of quinquennial inspecting architects.\n“Keeping warm in church – from the Middle Ages to the present day”. \nTimetable\n09.30: Registration\n10.00: Welcome : Sir Hugh Duberly\, Chair of the Trust\n10.05: “A man who looks on glass . . . “ – windows from Saxon times to the twenty-first century – Dr Jasmine Allen\n10.55: Coffee\n11.20: Candlelight and its accessories – Dr Kirstin Kennedy\n12.10: From gas and gasoliers to incandescent lamps\, and sodium floodlighting to LED light sources – Bruce Kirk\n13.00: Sandwich lunch\, for those who have ordered\n14.00: The work of the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust – The Revd Canon David Pritchard\, Vice-Chair of the Trust\n14.25: Keeping warm in church – from the Middle Ages to the present day –  Sarah Khan\n15.15: Closing remarks

SUMMARY:Bells and Bell Frames with Robert Walker
DESCRIPTION:Robert’s talk is about things which are for the most part heard but not seen – the bells and the sometimes spectacular structures within towers which support them. \nHe will speak about medieval bells and their conservation but focus on the development of medieval and later bell frames which evolved so that the bells could be rung in methods. \nHis talk will be illustrated by his photographs and measured drawings accumulated during his survey of all the towers in Cambridgeshire. \nTickets are FREE\, but we encourage a DONATION
