DESCRIPTION:How doctrine and practice shaped churches and their furnishings from the Anglo-Saxons to Charles III   \nSaturday 5th April 2025\nWolfson College\, Cambridge CB3 9BB \nWe are pleased to announce details of our conference\, which as usual we hope will be of interest to our members and others and will enhance their knowledge and understanding of church buildings in our county and elsewhere. \nProgramme \n0930      Registration\n1000      Welcome : His Honour Neil McKittrick\, Chair of the Trust\, a Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire.\n1005      The emergence of the parish church\, St Augustine to 1200 – Richard Halsey\, former Regional Director\, English Heritage\, former Chair of the Trust\n1055      Coffee\n1120      The high and late Middle Ages – Professor Paul Binski\, Professor of the History of Medieval Art at the University of Cambridge.\n1210      The place of the pulpit in the post-Reformation church – Dr Mark Kirby\, Research Fellow in Architectural History at Lincoln College\, Oxford.\n1300      Finger buffet lunch\, for those who have ordered\n1400      The work of the Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust – Nicholas Leigh-Smith\, Vice-Chair of the Trust\n1415      The Victorian Church: Gothic Revival and the Science of Ecclesiology – The Revd Canon Dr Nicholas Thistlethwaite\, Trustee of Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust\, Bye-Fellow of Gonville & Caius College\, Cambridge\n1455      From the Liturgical Movement to Fresh Expressions – nave altars and community uses – Dr Nigel Walter\, Architect\, Trustee of the National Churches Trust.\n1545      Closing remarks \nOur Speakers \nHis Honour Neil McKittrick is Chair of the Trust\, a Deputy Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire and a former High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire and former circuit judge. \nRichard Halsey is former Chair of the Trust and formerly served English Heritage as lead officer on cathedrals and major churches and Regional Director for Eastern England. \nProfessor Paul Binski is Emeritus Professor of the History of Medieval Art at the University of Cambridge and author of numerous published books on the subject. \nDr Mark Kirby is a Research Fellow in Architectural History at Lincoln College\, Oxford. \nNicholas Leigh-Smith is Vice-Chair of the Trust and Chair of its Executive Committee and former district judge. \nThe Revd Canon Dr Nicholas Thistlethwaite is a Trustee of Cambridgeshire Historic Churches Trust and Bye-Fellow of Gonville & Caius College\, Cambridge. \nDr Nigel Walter is a specialist conservation architect and a trustee of the National Churches Trust. \nOur venue \nThe Lee Hall is a fully equipped purpose-built lecture hall.  Lunch is served in the comfortable and attractive setting of the Combination Room. \nWolfson College is located just within the southwestern city limits of Cambridge\, on the left of Barton Road A603\, approaching Cambridge from M11 Junction 12.  A map and directions can be found at www.wolfson.cam.ac.uk/directions.
