A linear church of the early 12th century with later additions of a north chapel and north aisle. The church is notable for its surviving medieval wall paintings (partially revealed) and copious graffiti. When the parishes combined in 1874, St Peter’s was used for worship and St John’s was left to decay. It was taken on by The Churches Conservation Trust in 1979, remains consecrated, and is used for several services a year as well as concerts, art exhibitions and other community events.
