St John’s has been added to and loved for many generations. Ever since the 10th century Anglo-Saxon builders produced the tower, with classic long-and-short work and pilasters.
Among 1,000 years of development, we have two amazing carvings – the “Christ in Majesty” which has never been dated with certainty, but was found face-down in the floor in 1931! And the carving of the Conception of Christ in the Lady Chapel, which somehow also survived the Reformation and religious wars.
