This is a large church because of association with the Gilbertine Monastic order. The north entrance is now through an impressive early 14th century chapel and undercroft built onto a smaller Norman church. You can still see the small lancet windows which have been infilled. The vestry and chancel were rebuilt in the 15th century. Whilst the medieval poppyhead pews survive, much has been rebuilt by architect, Richard Reynold Rowe who rebuilt the south porch, nave/chancel arch and south aisle sedilia and double piscina. There are frescoes in the style of William Morris.
